Accentuate

Accentuate and CCC used the inspiration of the 2012 London Games to increase the opportunities for young people in the region to engage with their peers, internationally. This leaves a legacy of young people with broadened horizons, new skills, and enhanced global awareness and connectedness.

Collaborations! sought to promote the Olympic values of ‘excellence, respect and friendship’, to broaden the international outlook of young people in the region and to encourage in their development the qualities of openness, understanding, enquiry, equality and cooperation.

A range of collaborative projects took place and finally Collaborations merged with Celebrate and Commission to create the biggest Accentuate commission to date: Starting Line.  You can find out more about Starting Line in the separate Starting Line section on the website.

The piece had a year-long international outreach programme
accompanying it. More than 100 disabled and non-disabled children and young people were engaged with artist-led workshops taking place in Buckinghamshire, USA and South Africa and a viral network through Creative Junctions’ ecommunity reaching out as far as Cambodia, Brazil, Ecuador and Australia. Artist-led work also took place in Stoke Mandeville Spinal Injury Unit with both adults and young people who had recently become disabled.

‘Starting Line’ has been a fantastic opportunity for 4 young disabled people from Harding House School, Aylesbury, who formed a young person’s panel: they have been the voice of their peers on this project including visiting the artistic team in rehearsals in London.
