FYI: Opportunities

Reaching For Gold Competition

Realise! is an Accentuate project delivered by Creative Junction that seeks to support and develop young disabled entrepreneurs.  Accentuate has teamed up with a “dragon’s den” style competition, Reaching for Gold to help ensure this competition is as accessible to all young people as possible, but particularly to disabled young people.  We are hoping that some of our young people taking part in Realise! will also enter the Reaching for Gold competition.  We would also like to encourage other young people to take part in Reaching For Gold.

The competition is a chance for young people in the South East region to enter an idea for a product, service or other that will benefit other people.  The best ideas will be selected and the teams will be paired up with business and voluntary and community sector mentors for a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Many of last year’s teams spent a day in the company head offices, looking at latest developments or learning key skills such as developing plans and presenting.  This year all the selected teams will win a special prize for their idea and after 3 months mentoring the groups will be able to compete for three cash prizes to make the project into a reality at Windsor Castle.

This competition gives people aged 14-21 a chance to raise their aspirations, develop an innovative idea and have a once in a lifetime experience.  At the same time staff giving the mentoring will also be able to develop their skills, gain fresh insight and enjoy the competition.

The closing date for applications is 5pm 30th November 2011, more information can be found at www.reachingforgold.org.uk

Opportunity to commission work by contemporary integrated dance company

StopGAP Dance Company presents Spun Productions our new tour-ready outdoor work for 2012

Following the success of our first outdoor production Tracking, StopGAP has been commissioned to make a brand new outdoor performance: Spun Productions as part of the Cultural Olympiad in the south east and the Accentuate programme.

The production is available to outdoor and dance programmers who are
looking for vibrant work that engages with local and international visitors in
their area.

Spun Productions is a vibrant piece of dance theatre drawing on the popularity of
interactive TV programmes. Set in the imaginary world of an audience voting show
“So You’re Not Sure If This Is Dance” the ten strong performers parody the corporate
star-making machine and the erratic nature of entertainment TV.

The fictitious TV programme is a low budget and shambolic money-spinner that has
a high-turn over of creating stars (just one week!). The next victim is Dave – a misguided hero. Leaving his monotonous life behind, he is taken into a strange world
of the haphazard TV show, where his familiar life is subverted into bizarre fragments.
Fusing the techniques of street theatre and integrated dance, StopGAP takes the
audience through the mayhem of bizarre entertainment TV, whose powerful lure
drags our wannabe through whimsical acceptance and rejection.

Spun Productions is a 30-minute show that can be performed twice a day on a 15m x15m flat concrete surface. It has 10 performers with and without disabilities, including five guest performers joining the core of StopGAP dancers, who will bring a
slice of life to outdoor spaces. The guest dancers include StopGAP’s young trainees, who have been working with the main company to nurture their talents as integrated dancers.

A promo DVD and a detailed technical specification are available upon request
