Creative Junction recruited Hillie Thomason to be the Our View Project Person for Campaign! Hillie was one of the young people involved in the Campaign! project at Arbour Vale School. Hillie became the Campaign! ‘Our View Rep’ and attended events at Channel 4 and the Houses of Parliament. She produced a film about the project, linking up with campaigns in other schools to interview the students and artists involved.
?”What I enjoyed the most about being an Our View Rep: Doing the friendship dance, meeting new people, going to the meetings, learning to make a film”
Hillie Thomason
Our View and Campaign! has diversified the way Creative Junction improves young people’s employability skills. The experience of building the role around the individual¬ as they did for Hillie, will make future work experience offers more accessible and flexible.
Creative Junction are already using a structure similar to Our View across their other projects, enhancing young people’s voice and leadership.
In the future they may consider how the individuals could benefit further, by collectively contributing to the direction of an organisation and its work.
“The process of working out how to make Our View accessible to a young person was challenging, but important- and led to a young disabled person being at the heart of Campaign!
Hillie was a constant theme in my thoughts and on my to do list, for example when compiling an ebulletin or thinking about evaluating the project, I would think- ‘what is Hillie’s contribution to this going to be?’ “
Rachel Sears, Project Manager for Campaign!
Taking part in Campaign! And being the Our View Rep has shaped what Hillie Thomason would like to do in the future:
“I would like to teach children how to dance. I would like to show everyone what I can do – I can dance, be part of meetings, make films, and interview people”
