Screen South is delighted to announce an exciting new opportunity to buy 10 works generously donated by Sir Quentin Blake made during the Covid 19 lockdown. Sir Quentin, perhaps best known for illustrating many Roald Dahl books, was filmed making these original drawings during #isolationartschool. All proceeds from sales will go directly to Accentuate, Screen South’s pioneering programme that supports D/deaf, disabled and neurodiverse artists, curators and filmmakers. Works will be sold for a set price of £200 each as part of the global movement Artist Support Pledge. In response to the Covid 19 Pandemic artist Matthew Burrows, set up Artist Support Pledge as a way to support artists and makers during such a difficult time. All artists sell their work for a maximum of £200 and once they have sold four works, they pledge to buy another artists work for £200, therefore creating a sustainable and generous arts ecology. This movement has been so successful that certain charities are now also being featured and supported through this initiative. Sir Quentin Blake was approached via Hastings Contemporary and Artist Support Pledge to ask if he would be interested in supporting Accentuate and he generously offered 10 works for sale. Esther Fox Head of Accentuate said “We are delighted that Sir Quentin has so kindly given works in support of the Accentuate programme. This is very much in the spirit of generosity and support that has been the ethos behind Artist Support Pledge. Accentuate is proud to provide ground breaking arts and heritage opportunities for D/deaf and disabled people, shining a light on their talents and expertise. This time of isolation also highlights the experiences many D/deaf and disabled people face on a regular basis. Accentuate strives to change this marginalisation by putting D/deaf and disabled artists, curators and filmmakers front and centre. This generous donation by Sir Quentin will ensure we can continue this mission”. Where can I buy the artwork? The 10 artworks entitled Rainbow Senneliers will be going on sale this week via the platform instagram. They will be released at different times each day and will be sold on a first come first served basis. Visit the Screen South Instagram page - https://www.instagram.com/screen.south/
